2025 IndyCar Drivers Championship Standings after Portland

Checkout updated 2025 IndyCar Drivers Championship Standings after Portland Grand Prix round 15 of 17.

Alex Palou effectively sealed his fourth IndyCar World Championship title at Portland where he secured a podium finish, cementing his position at the pinnacle of the 2025 standings with an impressive total of 626 points.

Palou has enjoyed a dominant season with Chip Ganassi Racing marked by 8 race wins, 5 pole positions, and 13 top-ten finishes across 15 races, underscoring not just speed but a relentless quest for excellence.

Trailing behind Palou in second place is Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward who sits 151 points adrift with 475 points. Despite a valiant effort at Portland where he started on pole and led the early laps, O’Ward’s campaign was dramatically hampered by an unexpected mechanical failure.

This setback saw him drop to 25th place by the finish and with only 54 points on offer for each of the season’s final two rounds, his hopes of extending the championship fight were effectively dashed.

Nevertheless, O’Ward has delivered an impressive season performance characterized by two wins – at Indy Toronto and Grand Prix of Iowa Race 1 – coupled with nine top-five finishes which is the second-best tally in the series.

Meanwhile, Palou’s teammate Scott Dixon holds third place in the standings with 411 points after a solid season highlighted by a win at Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.

However, some minor hiccups including a drive-through penalty at Portland following a collision saw Dixon finish 11th, limiting his ability to challenge O’ward for the second spot in the standings.

Arrow McLaren’s rising star Christian Lundgaard is rapidly closing in on Dixon, just 13 points behind in fourth. Lundgaard’s momentum throughout the season has been spectacular with back-to-back second-place finishes catapulting him upward in the points table.

Kyle Kirkwood suffered a dip to fifth after a disappointing 20th place at Portland as his late season struggles continue.

Despite ranking as the second driver with most race wins this year; taking victory at World Wide Technology Raceway, Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and Detroit Grand Prix, Kirkwood has only managed one top 10 finish since Iowa, resulting to a tumble down the championship order.

Will Power delivered a triumphant race win at Portland, snapping Team Penske’s winless streak in the 2025 season. The win propelled Power to sixth in the championship standings with 342 points.

Felix Rosenqvist, Colton Herta and Marcus Armstrong closely follow Power, all within an 11-point gap, as David Malukas rounds out the top ten with 287 points.
