Jack Aitken to test with Envision Racing in Misano

Jack Aitken is scheduled to wrap up the upcoming rookie practice for Envision Racing in Misano after taking part in previous tests with the team.

Former F1 driver Jack Aitken is going to experience his first Formula E run at the end of the month when he drives one of the two Envision Racing machines in the upcoming rookie test scheduled for April 24 in Berlin.

Next weekend’s inaugural Misano E-Prix will get underway with FP0, a practice session reserved for eleven Formula E rookie drivers which is essentially a 30-minute test for rookies.

“I’m really excited to be Envision Racing’s rookie driver,” Aitken said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to get behind the wheel of a Formula E car for the first time – the new Gen3 model looks like a lot of fun to drive.

“I can’t wait for the opportunity to experience that for myself in Berlin and assist the team with their work as they keep building on what has already been a great start to the season.”

The South Korean-British racer has accumulated a great deal of single-seater experience so far in his career, having made his Formula 1 debut at the Sakhir Grand Prix in 2020 with Williams Racing.

Aitken served as Williams’ reserve driver from 2020 to 2022, a role he had previously held with the Renault F1 team alongside his three successful seasons in Formula 2, winning three races in 2019 alone to finish fifth in the drivers’ standings.

Aitken began racing sportscars at the beginning of 2023 and together with teammates Alexander Sims and Pipo Derani celebrated winning the historic 12 Hours of Sebring.

“We are delighted to welcome Jack Aitken to Envision Racing for the official rookie test day in Berlin,” said Managing Director and Chief Technical Officer at Envision Racing Sylvain Filippi.

“Jack has a wealth of talent and experience, and we are very excited that he will be getting his first taste of Formula E with our team. The test day will be hugely beneficial to him as a driver and for us to gather more crucial data for the season ahead.”

Envision Racing has enjoyed an impressive start to Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship with Sébastien Buemi placing the car on pole in Saudi Arabia and Nick Cassidy finishing on the podium in the last three races. The Silverstone-based team currently sits second in the team standings after six rounds.
