Dovizioso officially recognized as a MotoGP legend

Andrea Dovizioso has been officially recognized as a MotoGP legend following his induction into the Hall of Fame.

The MotoGP has now recognized Andrea Dovizioso as a legend after induction to the Hall of Fame. The three-time MotoGP runner-up and 2004 125cc World Champion was honored with his MotoGPTM Legend award by Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta at the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley on Thursday.

The ceremony was held in front of a full venue at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, where Dovizioso has dominated in MotoGP.

Dovizioso won the 125cc World Championship in 2004 and advanced to the 250cc class and established himself as a consistent contender before making his MotoGP debut in 2008 and finishing on the podium in the premier division as a rookie.

The 37-year old won his maiden race in the premier class the following year and remained a podium challenger until he parted ways with Honda at the end of 2011. He later made his Yamaha Tech3 debut the following year, winning a lot of podiums once more before joining the Ducati factory team in 2013, and the two started a long climb to the top.

Dovizioso earned two podium finishes in 2014, five in 2015, and five more in 2016, including a historic victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix, his first since 2009. This was the beginning of an upsurge of his remarkable MotoGP career.

With 12 victories in just three seasons, Dovizioso went on to finish second in the Championship in 2017, 2018, and 2019. 2020 marked his final year with Ducati as he earned his final victory at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix.

After taking a short sabbatical from racing, Dovizioso returned to the track in the second half of 2021 season as a Yamaha Independent Team rider before calling it quits after the 2022 Misano Grand Prix. The paddock turned out for his final hurrah to recognize the accomplishments and decorum of an iconic figure and star in MotoGP.

Dovizioso now joins a list of MotoGP Legends that includes Valentino Rossi and other great MotoGP stars.
