Pfaff seals first Lamborghini Temerario GT3 IMSA win at Road America

Pfaff Motorsports turned chaotic Road America 6H into a landmark moment with Andrea Caldarelli and Sandy Mitchell delivering the first Lamborghini Temerario GT3 IMSA win in the GTD Pro class.

The No. 9 Pfaff Lamborghini surged to the front of the field during the closing two stints, benefitting from a fierce and ultimately self-defeating battle between the Porsche 911 GT3 R entries from AO Racing and Manthey.

“I think the Porsches were very fast, even yesterday in qualifying, so at the beginning we were just holding position,” Andrea Calderelli said after the race. “Then we got a couple of good calls on the pit strategy.

“There was one yellow, the last one before we changed from Sandy to myself, which, when we pitted, the yellow came just a couple of laps after, and that gave us a couple of positions.”

Sandy Mitchell added: “There’s been so much work behind the scenes throughout this year, as well as developing the car last year, and continuing that development into this year, whether that’s at the race events or testing in the background.“

Manthey’s Thomas Preining was served with a costly drive-through penalty in the final hour for failure to comply with powertrain parameters, a sanction that dropped his car to ninth in class.

The No. 77 AO Racing Porsche of Nick Tandy and Harry King took second in GTD Pro, while the No. 4 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Z06 of Tommy Milner and Nicky Catsburg completed the podium, narrowing their deficit to the championship leading No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3 EVO to just 15 points with three rounds remaining.

The No. 1 BMW shared by Connor de Phillippi and Neil Verhagen suffered a race-ending crash when De Phillippi found the barriers at Canada Corner just past the halfway point.

In the GTD class, the No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of Russell Ward, Philip Ellis and endurance add-on Indy Dontje made it back-to-back victories, extending what has become one of the most consistent success stories of the 2026 IMSA season.

Ellis executed a stunning overtake for the GTD lead in the closing stages, going around the outside of the No. 023 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 296 GT3 Evo of Kenton Koch with a bold and decisive move.

Koch’s Ferrari ultimately finished second in class after benefitting from the late caution periods that allowed his fuel-light car to make it to the chequered flag without an additional pit stop.

DragonSpeed, meanwhile, scored its first GTD podium finish with the No. 81 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R shared by Giacomo Altoe, Casper Stevenson and Alec Udell.
