Tyler Reddick remains at the top of the NASCAR Cup Series standings but Denny Hamlin has closed the gap to eight points following Sunday’s Anduril 250 at Naval Base Coronado.
Reddick suffered a punctured left-front tire while battling 23XI Racing teammate Corey Heim for the race win, which caused him to drop dramatically to 25th place in the finishing order.
Hamlin finished 14th, slashing Reddick’s advantage from 19 points to just eight points as the championship battle tightens with nine races remaining in the regular season.
Kyle Larson jumped to fourth in the standings with his podium finish in San Diego, while Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott dropped to sixth.
Shane van Gisbergen fell below the chase cutline after crashing out of Sunday’s race, as Ryan Preece returned to the Chase with a solid drive.
