2026 NASCAR Cup San Diego starting lineup: Shane van Gisbergen grabs pole

Street Course maestro Shane van Gisbergen captured pole position for the inaugural 2026 NASCAR Cup Series San Diego Anduril 250 at Naval Base Coronado.

The Trackhouse Racing driver clocked a time of 2 minutes 14.788 seconds in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying, beating Carson Hocevar by 0.156 seconds to mark his sixth career Cup Series pole.

“A little bit,” said Van Gisbergen who was suprised to claim the holeshot. “I thought the track would be better, and I thought people would execute a bit better. As I said, it’s just so difficult. There’s three or four corners you’re seeing for the first time of the day, and it’s on your heater. Amazing.

“The Red Bull Chevy is really good. Thank you to Trackhouse for doing a great job from yesterday, and we just need to get the driver a bit better,” he concluded with a smile.”

Ryan Blaney claimed third place, just 0.260 seconds behind van Gisbergen, followed by Front Row Motorsports duo of Zane Smith and Todd Gilliland.

Daniel Suarez, Ryan Preece, Connor Zilisch, Michael McDowell and Austin Hill wrapped up the top ten.

Championship leader Tyler Reddick qualified 17th after a late spin, while last weekend’s winner Denny Hamlin finished 26th.

Kevin Magnussen qualified 21st for his NASCAR Cup debut with Trackhouse Racing Project 91.
