Kevin Magnussen will make his NASCAR Cup Series debut driving Trackhouse Racing‘s PROJECT91 Chevrolet at the inaugural San Diego street course race.
The Danish racing veteran, who boasts 185 Formula 1 Grand Prix starts between 2014 and 2024, will pilot the Qualcomm-sponsored Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Naval Base Coronado on June 21, 2026, as the series marks its first-ever race on an active United States military base.
Currently competing full-time in the FIA World Endurance Championship under BMW’s hypercar program, Magnussen brings recent high-level racing experience that includes an impressive second-place finish at Spa-Francorchamps in May 2026.
Magnussen will run in the fourth Trackhouse entry alongside established Cup Series drivers Ross Chastain in the No. 1, Shane van Gisbergen in the No. 17, and rookie Connor Zilisch, giving the Danish driver the opportunity to learn alongside some of the sport’s most talented competitors.
Qualcomm Technologies will serve as the primary sponsor for Magnussen’s debut effort, bringing a worldwide technology brand to the PROJECT91 entry and fulfilling team owner Justin Marks’ vision of pairing global drivers with global sponsors for the part-time program.

To provide drivers from outside of the NASCAR world with a chance to compete at this level. I’m proud to have this opportunity.”
Phil Surgen will serve as Magnussen’s crew chief for the San Diego event, bringing invaluable experience that includes guiding Ross Chastain to six NASCAR Cup Series wins and a runner-up finish in the 2022 championship standings.

Preparations for Kevin Magnussen NASCAR Cup debut have already begun in earnest with the driver traveling to Trackhouse’s headquarters in North Carolina to meet the team and make all preparations ahead of the inaugural San Diego street course race.
”I’ve already spent time with the team in North Carolina – meeting everyone, doing the seat fit, going through pit stop procedures and all the details that come with preparing for a NASCAR weekend,” he added.
”They’re an awesome group of people, incredibly dedicated, and just as excited about this debut as I am. I really can’t wait to get to San Diego and experience it all for the first time.”
Magnussen becomes the fourth driver to join Trackhouse Racing’s PROJECT91 program which was specifically designed to provide world-class racing drivers from outside the NASCAR ecosystem a pathway to compete at the highest level of American stock car racing.
