Pedro Acosta stormed to his maiden MotoGP victory in a dramatic thriller at the Chang International Circuit that saw Marco Bezzecchi crash from the lead.
The 21-year-old Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider capitalized on the chaos to outduel nine-time world champion Marc Marquez, who was relegated to second after a controversial stewards’ penalty for forcing Acosta wide in a late-race battle.
Raul Fernandez took the last step on the podium for Trackhouse Aprilia followed by teammate Ai Ogura and factory stablemate Jorge Martin who rounded out the top five, salvaging some points for the manufacturer after Bezzecchi’s misfortune.
Acosta’s teammate Brad Binder delivered a spirited charge from mid-grid to finish sixth, edging out Joan Mir who emerged as the best Honda in seventh.
VR46 Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio clawed back to eighth after a first-corner tangle with Alex Marquez, while Francesco Bagnaia salvaged a single point in ninth, outperforming Honda’s Luca Marini who completed the top ten.
