Fabio Di Giannantonio smashed the lap record with a blistering time of 2:00.136 to claim pole position for the US GP, edging out championship leader Marco Bezzecchi by 0.193s.

Pedro Acosta slotted into third for KTM positioning him ideally for a Sprint podium assault, while Pecco Bagnaia refined his effort to claim fourth place, nosing ahead of Joan Mir who impressed in fifth for Honda.

Reigning champion Marc Marquez netted sixth after tangling with Bezzecchi at the end of the back straight, with the stewards placing the latter under investigation for the incident.

Jorge Martin was unable to replicate his final practice form amid session disruptions and faltered to seventh, just ahead of Gresini’s Alex Marquez. Luca Marini scraped into ninth while Fermin Aldeguer rounded out the top ten.

Update: Bezzecchi and Marini were handed two-place grid penalties for Sunday’s race after a spate of investigations into impeding.
