Carlos Sainz takes the new Ferrari F1-75 out for a ride in Barcelona

Carlos Sainz conducted a shakedown of the 2022 Ferrari F1 car, the F1-75 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya ahead of the official pre-season test at the same venue.

The shakedown comes after the team launched its 2022 contender last week, and a day later Carlos Sainz and teammate Charles Leclerc were given the opportunity to drive the Ferrari F1-75 at the team’s home circuit in Fiorano for a demo run.

Before pre-season testing, all teams are allowed to undertake a shakedown with their new cars, which includes 100 kilometers of running on display tyres, to ensure they are in working order. The run also includes filming as the teams conduct preliminary checks in preparation for the oncoming season.

Barcelona’s Catalunya circuit will host the first of two pre-season tests. The venue has proved to be popular and a better preference for F1 tests since the 1990s due to its variety of high-speed, medium-speed, and low-speed corners.

Ferrari will be seeking for their first constructors title with the F1-75 since winning the championship with Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen in 2008. The Maranello squad has also missed out on winning a drivers’ title since 2007 as Sebastian Vettel got Ferrari’s last victory in Singapore back in 2019.

However, as the Italian team struggles to get back to the top of the pecking order, they managed to finish third in the 2021 constructors championship standings, defeating McLaren.

Carlos Sainz is on his second stint with Ferrari after he joined them in 2021 from McLaren. The Sparniard was very fast in adapting with the team, earning multiple podium finishes and finally ranking fifth in the drivers’ championship standings, trailing behind Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas, and Sergio Perez.

On the other hand, his teammate Charles Leclerc showed flashes of brilliance in races like Monaco and Baku, as well as a near-win at Silverstone.

Ferrari’s strong lineup of drivers makes it a serious contender in both tournaments if the F1’s most successful constructor produces a phenomenal car in 2022.
