Iker Lecuona to miss Misano WorldSBK Race 2 after superpole crash

Iker Lecuona will not be participating in Race 2 after crashing with Danilo Petrucci during the Superpole Race at the Misano WorldSBK event.

Three laps into the Superpole Race, an incident at turn eight caused the former MotoGP teammates to crash out with only three laps to go.

Danilo Petrucci received a long-lap penalty for his role in the crash he had previously started on lap one, which sent both GRT Yamaha riders to the ground.

Following the execution of his penalty, Lecuona, Xavi Vierge, and Garrett Gerloff engaged in a four-rider duel with Petrucci. Later, Petrucci again made contact with the Spaniard before both riders landed hard on the asphalt in an effort to make up for his earlier infraction.

Red flags were raised right away as Alvaro Bautista won his second race of the weekend, giving him a total of 13 victories in 14 races so far this year.

Lecuona was not given the all-clear to participate in Race 2 after both riders were transferred to the medical facility. Lecuona was hurt in his left hip as well as his left ankle, among other places.
