Former NASCAR driver hospitalised after base jump goes wrong

Former Rally America title winner Travis Pastrana tried the jump while filming his latest stunt for a new web series in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Former NASCAR driver Travis Pastrana was rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries during a skycraper jump he had attempted.

As part of a stunt for a web series he is filming, the 38-year-old jumped from the Hyatt Centric in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and attempted to land at the Huizenga Plaza. Sadly, his parachute failed as he fell from the building, leaving him in need of hospital treatment after reaching the ground.

Pastrana is known as a daredevil who has attempted several of Evel Knievel’s famous stunts in the past. He has also worked as a stuntman.

The horrifying fall was recorded by a fan, who shared the video on social media shortly after the horrifying incident. Pastrana can be seen spiraling in the air after releasing the parachute, then appearing to speed towards the earth before contact in the clip.

He was brought to the neighboring Broward Health Medical Center for treatment, where his spokesperson later told WSVN that he had shattered his pelvis and had surgery.

“Pastrana is feeling a lot better and can’t wait to get back to doing what he loves,” said a spokeswoman for the web series he was filming.

Pastrana raced in NASCAR from 2011 to 2013, before returning in 2020, and has also competed in the Global RallyCross Championship.
