Oscar Piastri completed McLaren Friday practice sweep at Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya – Full 2025 F1 Spanish Grand Prix FP2 Results.
As the session began, anticipation was high following Lando Norris’s strong showing in Free Practice 1 and McLaren’s decision to unify their rear wing setup for both drivers paid immediate dividends.
Oscar Piastri delivered a blistering lap of 1:12.760 on soft tyres to top the timesheets. This time was not only the fastest of the session but also nearly three-tenths of a second clear of his nearest rival, sending a clear message to the rest of the field that McLaren’s pace at Barcelona is genuine and formidable.
Meanwhile, George Russell in the Mercedes was the closest challenger finishing second with a time of 1:13.046, just 0.286 seconds adrift of Piastri.
Reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen slotted into third, his best effort of 1:13.070 matching Norris to the thousandth of a second, though the Dutchman set his lap earlier and thus was classified ahead.
Lando Norris fresh from his FP1 heroics ended the session in fourth with an identical time to Verstappen, underscoring McLaren’s competitiveness and the razor-thin margins at the front of the field.
Ferrari endured a mixed session with Charles Leclerc finishing fifth after a scrappy lap that exposed the SF-25’s handling challenges. Leclerc battled both oversteer and understeer and his frustration was evident as he wrestled the car through the twisty sections.
The Ferrari appeared particularly sensitive to the high track temperatures, with tyre degradation and balance issues preventing Leclerc from mounting a serious challenge for the top spots.
Russell’s teammate Kimi Antonelli, continued his impressive adaptation to Formula 1 by securing sixth place, only a fraction behind the established frontrunners further consolidating his reputation as one of the most promising talents on the grid.
Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso provided a rare highlight for the home crowd by placing his Aston Martin seventh. Teammate Lance Stroll, however, endured a difficult session, spending significant time in the garage with technical issues and ultimately finishing sixteenth after completing just seventeen laps.
Alpine’s fortunes were mixed with Pierre Gasly securing eighth place while rookie Franco Colapinto languished at the bottom of the timesheets in twentieth.

The Racing Bulls duo of Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson continued to impress, finishing ninth and tenth respectively.
Lewis Hamilton ended the session in eleventh just ahead of Nico HĂĽlkenberg in the Sauber. Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda finished thirteenth while Williams drivers Alex Albon and home favourite Carlos Sainz were fifteenth and fourteenth respectively.
Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto finished seventeenth while Haas endured a difficult session with Esteban Ocon in eighteenth and Oliver Bearman in nineteenth. Bearman’s session was particularly challenging as an early spin limited his running and left him with little time to recover lost ground.
