McLaren’s Lando Norris topped Formula 1‘s opening practice at Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya – Full 2025 F1 Spanish Grand Prix FP1 Results.
Fresh off his victory in Monaco, Norris carried his momentum into Barcelona, topping the timing charts with a blistering lap of 1:13.718 on the soft compound tires.
This time placed the British driver 0.367 seconds clear of his nearest rival, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who himself looked determined to reclaim the upper hand after a challenging run in previous races.
Third on the timesheets was Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton who posted a 1:14.096, just 0.011 seconds behind Verstappen. The Scuderia’s strong showing was further underlined by Charles Leclerc who slotted into fourth with a 1:14.238 after completing 31 laps.
Norris’s McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri rounded out the top five with a time of 1:14.294. Liam Lawson impressed by securing sixth place for Racing Bulls with a 1:14.339, demonstrating both speed and composure as he completed 28 laps.
His performance was closely followed by Oliver Bearman in the Haas who split the Racing Bulls drivers by finishing seventh with a 1:14.597 just ahead of Isack Hadjar in eighth.
Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda was ninth with a 1:14.643, while Alpine’s Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten with a 1:14.746 after a solid 28-lap stint that focused primarily on race setup and fuel load variations.
The session also featured several reserve and rookie drivers, as is often the case in the opening practice of a European Grand Prix.
Ryo Hirakawa, standing in for Esteban Ocon at Haas, completed 23 laps and finished seventeenth despite going off track just minutes into the session. Meanwhile, Victor Martins, taking over Alex Albon’s Williams for the session, finished nineteenth with a 1:15.522.
