Fabio Quartararo storms to MotoGP Silverstone pole position with new lap record

Fabio Quartararo shattered Alex Marquez’s lap record to secure MotoGP Silverstone pole position – Full 2025 British MotoGP Qualifying Results.

The Frenchman’s blistering lap of 1:57.233 not only secured his third consecutive pole of the season but also sent a clear message to his rivals that Yamaha’s recent technical upgrades are paying dividends.

The 2025 British MotoGP Qualifying unfolded in two phases: Q1 and Q2. The opening act saw several riders contending for promotion to the final shootout with Honda’s Luca Marini and VR46’s Franco Morbidelli successfully advancing.

Notable absentees from Q2 included KTM’s Pedro Acosta and Honda’s Joan Mir, both narrowly missing out after promising early laps. The pressure was palpable as riders pushed their machines to the limit, with every tenth of a second crucial in the battle for grid position.

Q2 began with Yamaha’s Alex Rins setting the initial benchmark at 1:58.558 closely following the Marquez brothers. However, his time was quickly eclipsed by teammate Fabio Quartararo who posted a 1:58.506 before the real fireworks began.

Championship leader Marc Marquez riding for the factory Ducati team was the first to dip into the 1:57s with a 1:57.914, signaling his intent to challenge for MotoGP Silverstone pole position.

Quartararo, however, had other ideas as he proceeded to deliver a flawless lap shattering Alex Marquez’s previous record with a stunning 1:57.233.

The time was not only a new all-time Silverstone lap record but also a demonstration of the 2021 world champion’s confidence and the improved performance of the Yamaha M1, which has benefited from new aerodynamic and swingarm updates.

Quartararo’s margin over second-placed Alex Marquez was a substantial 0.309 seconds, underlining his dominance in qualifying.

Alex Marquez, despite his FP2 crash, showed remarkable composure to secure second on the grid with a 1:57.542. Completing the front row was Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia who returned to the front row for the first time since the Spanish Grand Prix with a 1:57.822.

Marc Marquez had to settle for fourth on the grid, marking his worst qualifying position of the season and his first time off the front row. Despite his issues with setup, the Spanish rider remained within striking distance, and his race pace suggests he will be a major threat in both the sprint and main race.

Joining him on the second row were rookie sensation Fermin Aldeguer who impressed with a 1:58.073 for Gresini, and Jack Miller who continued his strong run for Prima Pramac Yamaha with a 1:58.105.

The third row featured a mix of experienced campaigners and rising stars. Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46) secured seventh with a 1:58.126, just ahead of Honda’s Luca Marini in eighth.

LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, despite a late crash in Q2, managed to qualify ninth while Franco Morbidelli (VR46) rounded out the top ten.

Further down the grid, Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) and Alex Rins (Yamaha Factory) completed the Q2 participants, with Rins showing flashes of speed but ultimately unable to match his teammate’s pace.
