F1 calendar 2026: Madrid set for debut, Imola dropped

Check out the full F1 calendar 2026 – Formula 1 officially unveils 24-race campaign that will feature a landmark Madrid Grand Prix debut while bidding farewell to the iconic Imola circuit.

The announcement, made jointly by the FIA and Formula 1’s commercial rights holders, underscores a year of transformation with new technical regulations, advanced sustainable fuels, and a reshaped European leg.

The 2026 F1 season will commence in Melbourne, Australia from March 6-8, maintaining its tradition as the curtain-raiser and will conclude under the lights of Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit from December 4-6.

The inclusion of Madrid as the new host of the Spanish Grand Prix, scheduled for September 11-13, is a centerpiece of the revised calendar. This change comes at the expense of the Emilia-Romagna GP which has been dropped to streamline the European segment and align with Formula 1’s broader sustainability objectives.

The decision to replace Imola circuit with Madrid is emblematic of the sport’s evolving landscape. The former, steeped in racing heritage and revered by fans and drivers alike has been a fixture in the sport, especially since its return in 2020.

However, the push for a more geographically coherent calendar and Formula 1’s ambitious target of becoming net zero carbon by 2030 prompted decisive action.

F1 calendar 2026 is designed to minimize long-haul travel and freight movements, particularly by consolidating the European races into an uninterrupted summer stretch which improves operational efficiency.

The Spanish capital will now share the spotlight with Barcelona which will host its final race under the current contract on June 12-14. The Madrid Grand Prix is confirmed as the Spanish Grand Prix host until at least 2035, reflecting a long-term vision for the event.

The 2026 F1 calendar also reflects a broader reshuffling aimed at improving the flow of races and enhancing the overall sustainability of the championship.

Notably, the Canadian Grand Prix has been moved forward to May 22-24, directly after the Miami Grand Prix on May 1-3. This adjustment will reduce the environmental impact of transatlantic shipping, as team equipment will now be transported directly between the two North American venues.

The Monaco Grand Prix will later kick off the European summer on June 5-7, followed by a series of classic circuits that include Barcelona, Spielberg, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Budapest, Zandvoort, and Monza, before culminating in Madrid.

After the European leg, the championship will move to Asia for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku and the Singapore Grand Prix, before embarking on a triple-header in the Americas—Austin, Mexico City, and São Paulo.

The 2026 F1 season will then close with the high-profile races in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi, maintaining the 24-race format that has become the modern standard for Formula 1.
