Full 2025 Shanghai E-Prix Race 2 Results – Nick Cassidy delivered a flawless performance in treacherous conditions to claim commanding Formula E victory for Jaguar TCS Racing.
The build-up to the second race was overshadowed by a deluge that battered the circuit from the early morning hours. Qualifying was heavily impacted with proceedings delayed by 45 minutes as officials assessed the safety of the track.
As the rain continued to fall, the start of the race was pushed back in a bid to allow the worst of the weather to pass. Even so, the track remained saturated, and the race began behind the safety car.
For the first six laps, the field circulated cautiously with Nick Cassidy leading the pack followed closely by da Costa and Wehrlein as the safety car finally peeled off to signal a rolling start.
From the green flag, Cassidy immediately stamped his authority as the race leader, gradually pulling away from the chasing pack.
The wet conditions made overtaking a risky proposition, with the racing line offering the only semblance of traction. Any attempt to move off-line resulted in aquaplaning, as demonstrated by several drivers who flirted with disaster but managed to keep their cars pointing in the right direction.
Pascal Wehrlein who had started third made a bold move early on by activating attack mode, briefly challenging Cassidy for the lead. However, the Porsche driver’s ambitions were checked when he ran wide at Turn 7, losing precious seconds and falling back into the clutches of his teammate da Costa.

Further down the order the midfield was a hive of cautious activity. Maserati’s Jake Hughes delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, holding station in fourth and keeping the pressure on the leading trio.
Jean-Eric Vergne fresh from a podium in Race 1 brought his DS Penske home in fifth ahead of Andretti’s Nico Müller while Stoffel Vandoorne survived a late-race pirouette to finish seventh in the second Maserati MSG.
Lucas di Grassi brought his Lola Yamaha ABT home in eighth while Robin Frijns secured valuable points for Envision in ninth. Taylor Barnard, celebrating his birthday, capped off a spirited drive with a late move to snatch tenth place from Zane Maloney, denying Lola Yamaha ABT a double points finish.
The race was not without its casualties. Maximilian Günther, Saturday’s winner and a contender for back-to-back victories, was the sole retiree after his DS Penske suffered a terminal issue, bringing his challenge to a premature end.
David Beckmann of Cupra Kiro endured a torrid afternoon, spinning twice in the slippery conditions but managing to reach the finish.
For championship leader Oliver Rowland the race proved to be a frustrating affair. Starting 17th after a compromised qualifying the Nissan driver found progress all but impossible. He eventually crossed the line in 13th to retain his championship lead but unable to extend his advantage.
The lack of energy-saving requirements in the flat-out wet race meant that strategic opportunities were limited, and the treacherous conditions made overtaking a perilous gamble.
