2025 Italian MotoGP Practice Results: Vinales dominates Friday’s proceedings

KTM’s Maverick Vinales set the benchmark in Friday afternoon’s practice at Mugello – Full 2025 Italian MotoGP Practice Results.

The Tuscan hills echoed with the sound of high-performance machines as teams and riders sought to secure their place in Saturday’s crucial Q2 session, setting the stage for an electrifying race weekend.

As the session commenced, anticipation was high, particularly given Mugello’s reputation for rewarding both outright speed and technical finesse.

However, the early minutes were punctuated by an incident involving Fabio Quartararo who crashed at turn four, a moment that briefly overshadowed the session’s competitive narrative.

Quartararo was seen clutching his left shoulder in the gravel and replays confirmed the severity of the incident. Trackside marshals responded swiftly, with one helping to relocate his dislocated shoulder right there in the gravel trap.

Despite the visible pain and the emotional exchange with marshals over his fitness to ride, Quartararo’s determination saw him return to the pits, regroup, and remarkably, rejoin the session with just under forty minutes remaining.

Quartararo’s resilience was emblematic of the spirit seen throughout the paddock, and his subsequent performance was nothing short of remarkable. By the end of the session, the Frenchman had posted a lap in the 1:44s, securing fifth place for Yamaha and direct entry into Q2.

Meanwhile, KTM Tech3’s Maverick Vinales timed his final push to deliver a lap of 1:44.634, placing him 0.110 seconds ahead of the field.

This margin, while not record-breaking, was significant in a session where the top ten riders were separated by just 0.645 seconds, underscoring the razor-thin margins that define modern MotoGP competition.

Behind Vinales, the Ducati contingent was formidable as expected on home soil with factory duo Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez slotting into second and third respectively while Gresini’s Alex Marquez took fourth.

Marco Bezzecchi ended the day in sixth place as the only Aprilia rider to secure a direct Q2 slot while Alex Rins delivered a strong performance to secure seventh.

Pedro Acosta spent time at the top of the timesheets earlier in the session but his final time attack left him eighth, just missing out on the 1:44s.

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rounded out the top ten, with Franco Morbidelli and Fabio di Giannantonio finishing ninth and tenth, respectively.
