Alex Palou emerged as the fastest driver of the day solidifying his position as a top contender for the pole position. Palou’s remarkable performance came on his only qualifying attempt where he recorded a four-lap average speed of 233.043 mph in the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda.
The current IndyCar points leader narrowly edged out Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin who posted 233.013 mph and Josef Newgarden who was third fastest with 233.004 mph.
Other notable performances on Saturday included Pato O’Ward, Scott Dixon, Robert Shwartzman, David Malukas, Felix Rosenqvist, Takuma Sato, Will Power, Marcus Ericsson and Christian Lundgaard, all of whom secured spots in the Fast 12 shootout scheduled for Sunday.
These drivers posted speeds ranging from just under 233 mph to around 231.8 mph, demonstrating the fierce competition among the top contenders.
