The official 2025 Indy 500 entry list features 34 drivers representing 12 teams. The field is a mix of seasoned veterans, former champions and exciting rookies all vying for a place in motorsport immortality.
Notably, the grid includes eight former race winners: Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon, Marcus Ericsson, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Josef Newgarden, Will Power, Alexander Rossi and Takuma Sato.
Among the most closely watched storylines is Josef Newgarden’s quest to make history. The Team Penske driver already a two-time defending Indy 500 champion is aiming to become the first in IndyCar history to win three consecutive Indianapolis 500 races.
Newgarden’s victories in 2023 and 2024 were both secured with dramatic last-lap passes, underscoring his tenacity and racecraft under pressure. His presence at the front of the field is a constant reminder of the razor-thin margins that define success at Indianapolis.
NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson will also make an entry as he attempts the rare feat of competing in both the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day.
