Aston Martin boss Mike Krack has stated that the team is not going on a farewell tour for Sebastian Vettel in the six remaining races in the 2022 Formula 1 championship.
Vettel declared before the Hungarian Grand Prix that this would be his final campaign as he will be retiring from the sport after joining the F1 grid in 2007.
The four-time champion has had a difficult two seasons with the Silverstone-based outfit with his recent retirement coming in the Italian GP which was his third of the year in addition to the two races he missed at the season’s beginning due to Covid.
“We are not really on the farewell tour, so we are not thinking this is the last Monza, this is the last European,” Mike Krack said shedding light on Vettel’s recent struggles.
“We will have a farewell in Abu Dhabi but until then, it is not in our minds that we go around the world and it is always the last, not at all.”
Over the course of the weekend at Monza, Aston Martin struggled to keep up with the pack due to lack of speed. According to Vettel, the only encouraging factor was the energy of the spectators.
“We have a couple of races to come where the car will be more competitive,” Krack hoped for better results as the 2022 Formula 1 championship heads to the last six races. “We have seen in Zandvoort the potential to go to Q3 was there.”
“Sebastian had an issue in turn 13 that prevented him from moving forward. We had the potential and this is also encouraging for the races to come.”
“Singapore has always been a track where he has performed very well, so we have high hopes we will achieve something good with him until the end.”
