Sebastian Vettel has been given the green light to compete in the Australian Grand Prix next weekend.

Sebastian Vettel will be back in the AMR-22 for the Australian Grand Prix after recovering from COVID-19, according to Aston Martin.

Vettel was thrown out of the opening round of the season after a positive Covid-19 test on the eve of the new season in Bahrain. In Saudi Arabia, he was unable to give the requisite negative test in time for the second round, thus he sat out the weekend once more.

Aston Martin Formula 1 team confirmed on Thursday that he has been cleared to fly to Australia for the third event of the 2022 season.

After fellow German Nico Hulkenberg and Canadian regular Lance Stroll filled in for Vettel in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, his Aston Martin team confirmed on Thursday that he will make the journey to Melbourne for the April 10 race.

“We are pleased to confirm that Sebastian Vettel is now fit to race and will therefore line up alongside @lance_stroll in Melbourne to kick off his 2022 @F1 season,” Aston Martin said on Twitter.

Along with Williams, Aston Martin is one of just two teams on the grid that has yet to score a point this season.

Ralf Schumacher, who said the team should drop Lance Stroll, has encouraged Nico Hulkenberg to stay in the Aston Martin despite his pointless finishes.

“Let’s move on to Aston Martin,” Ralf Schumacher said in his post-race column for Sky Germany. “If I were them, I would stick with Nico Hulkenberg because he can obviously bring added value and has improved significantly in the race compared to Bahrain.”

“And that was despite his tyre strategy being affected by the Safety Car. He did a great job, hats off.

After winning two of the previous three races at the Albert Park Circuit which will host the Australian Grand Prix, the German will be returning to one of his favorite venues. He’s also been on the podium eight times there.

Vettel’s absence in Bahrain ended a 15-year streak in which he has competed in every race weekend since the 2007 European Grand Prix.
