Giancarlo Fisichella to race for Iron Lynx for 2022 WEC

Giancarlo Fisichella has signed with the Iron Lynx for the 2022 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Claudio Schiavoni and Matteo Cressoni, who were both retained from last year’s lineup, will race the team’s #60 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo alongside the ex-F1 driver and two-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner.

“We are thrilled to announce our driver line-ups and series we’ll be competing in for 2022, with some exciting additions and continuity that can only help push Iron Lynx and Iron Dames further forward in the coming year,” said Iron Lynx team boss Andrea Piccini.

“We had such an incredible year in 2021, and we will approach the upcoming season with that same spirit. We know that it will be difficult to repeat the success of 2021 but this will be our target for this season.”

“The Iron Dames are also delighted to see the return of Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey across multiple championships for 2022.We are looking forward to more positive results, with all three drivers showing already great promise last year.”

Fisichella will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship for the seventh time, and for the fourth time in the GTE Am class.

Fisichella raced in the inaugural season of the series in 2012 and spent four years with Ferrari’s factory GTE Pro team, winning two GTE Pro class victories at Le Mans, as well as victories at Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, Interlagos, and Bahrain.

He returned to the series after a few years to establish a GTE Am combination with Francesco Castelacci and Thomas Flohr, first for Spirit of Race and then for AF Corse. For the 2022 campaign, he was replaced by Nick Cassidy.

Meanwhile, the all-female Iron Dames lineup hasn’t altered since the 2021 season. Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting, and Rahel Frey will pilot the #85 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.

The Italian team, which also competes in the Ferrari Challenge, European Le Mans Series, and GT World Challenge Europe, just presented its new color schemes for the 2022 season, which feature a much brighter on-track presence than last year’s mostly black liveries.
