McLaren took the covers off its 2022 Formula 1 car, the MCL36, during an event on Friday evening at its facility in Woking.
The MCL36 was unveiled to the globe on Friday night, making McLaren the fourth and the latest team to reveal their 2022 challenger.
The car was unveiled as part of the team’s larger launch event, which also included the unveiling of their 2022 IndyCar project with Arrow McLaren SP, their new Extreme E team, and the McLaren Shadow Esports team.
The MCL36 has a distinctive livery that includes a ‘fluro papaya’ and blue color scheme, as well as more black, than its 2021 predecessor.
Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo were in attendance as the team unveiled the livery of the car that they believe will help them maintain their recent upward trajectory in Formula 1, having firmly re-established themselves at the head of the field over the last two seasons.
Lando Norris is in his fourth season in Formula One with McLaren, following a successful 2021 season in which he won many podiums and earned his first pole position.
Speaking ahead of the team launch, Norris said: “It’s a new opportunity for us as drivers to show our skills, because I think the driving styles are going to have to be a little bit different, and the way of driving the cars.
“How you work with your engineers as well because it’s lot more of a development race, especially so early on with this new regulation.”
McLaren revealed earlier this week that Norris had signed a contract extension with the British team that will keep him with the company until at least the end of 2025, demonstrating his belief in the team’s plan to return to winning ways.
Daniel Ricciardo, on the other hand, had a more muted period following his transition from Renault, but seized his chance to end McLaren’s nine-year winless streak when he prevailed in Italy.
McLaren finished fourth in the 2021 Constructors’ Championship, with the greatest number of points since 2012. Just like the 2021 MCL35MÂ the MCL36 will be powered by Mercedes engines as part of McLaren’s long-term partnership with the company.
As a result of the new regulations, the pace relative to their rivals will be a complete unknown for all of the teams before pre-season qualifying begins on 23 February in Barcelona.
