Verstappen to race in virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans

Red Bull Champion Max Verstappen is among the renowned personalities in motorsport that will compete in the forthcoming Virtual Le Mans 24 Hours.

During the winter break, the 2021 Formula One World Champion has often raced for Team Redline. This is still the case this year.

Verstappen will compete in the LMP division alongside McLaren’s IndyCar driver Felix Rosenqvist and two sim racers, Max Benecke and Atze Kerkhof, in a virtual simulation of the legendary race on January 15-16. Every team racing must have two FIA-graded drivers, so the Red Bull driver and Rosenqvist aren’t the only two high-profile professional racers competing.

On the other hand, Juan Pablo Montoya and his son Sebastian will drive the LMVS Guest Car, as Alex Palou, the 2021 IndyCar champion, will race for Team Fordzilla.

Formula E driver Oliver Rowland and Formula 2 driver Felipe Drugovich will be fielding Realteam Hydrogen Redline in the series. Mercedes, Red Bull, and Alpine will also be fielding their eSports teams, as Fernando Alonso leads the French squad but not racing.

Rudy van Buren and James Baldwin, two previous World’s Fastest Gamer winners, are driving for BMW Team Redline and Veloce Racing, respectively.

The total prize fund for the Le Mans virtual series is $250,000, with half of it going to the forthcoming 24-hour race, which will be aired live on multiple social media outlets.
